VICE ADMIRAL DATUK ABDUL RAHMAN BIN HJ AYOB

            Vice Admiral Abdul Rahman bin Ayob was born on 2nd Dec 1964 in Johor Bahru, Johor. He joined the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) as an Officer Cadet on 2nd July 1982 and was commissioned as a Sub Lieutenant on 13th June 1984. Starting 1st Nov 19, he assumed his current position as the Deputy Chief of Navy.

            His career as an officer in the Executive Branch included appointments onboard KD KASTURI (Corvette), KD YU (FAC G), KD RENCHONG (PC), KD GEMPITA (FAC M), KD BAUNG (FAC G), KD PERDANA (FAC M) and KD SERAMPANG (PC) where he took his first command. His last sea appointment was the Commanding Officer of KD PERAK and the Squadron Leader of 17th Patrol Vessel Squadron.

            His shore duties covered appointments as staff officer at the Human Resource Department, Planning and Operations Department at the Naval Headquarters, and at the Maritime and Tactical Centre. He served with the RMN Submarine Force Project Team in Cherbourg (2003-2006) and later headed the Submarine Force Project Team cell at the Naval HQ (2006-2010).

            In 1993, VADM Abdul Rahman completed his submarine training at HMAS PLATYPUS, Australia and obtained his Submarine Qualification badge. He attended a number of submarine familiarization training in Sweden in 1995 and France in 1999 and completed his Basic Submarine Course (AGOSTA Class) in 20006 at France.

            VADM Abdul Rahman was appointed as the RMN Submarine Force Commander and the Submarines Operating Authority (SUBOPAUTH) twice from 9th August 12 until 8th March 13 and from 24th March 14 until 17th August 17. He had commanded the Naval Region 2 Headquarters (HQ COMNAV 2) from 5th Jan 17 to 22nd June 18. He was the first Naval Region 2 Commander to be based in Sandakan from 30th August 17 following the establishment of the Eastern Fleet Command in Kota Kinabalu. He had the opportunity to also serve as the Deputy Head of Mission of the International Monitoring Team (IMT-8) at Mindanao, Philippines from 15th March 13 to 15th March 14 and his last position was at the Eastern Fleet Commander RMN from 25th June 18 to 15th Oct 19.

            VADM Abdul Rahman is a graduate of Malaysia Armed Forces Staff College Haigate Kuala Lumpur in 1998 and obtained his Diploma in Defence and Strategic Studies in the same year. He is also a fellow of the Centre of Defence and Strategic Studies, Australia in 2011 and obtained his Master of Arts (Strategic Studies) from Deakin University, Australia.

            VADM Abdul Rahman is married to Datin Dr Norinah binti Mustapha and blessed with four children. VADM Abdul Rahman is a tennis player and a keen golfer.
